Director of the British Design Fund and Consultant

John has been working for forty years in the brand and design industry, leading a number of marketing, brand and design consultancies in the UK and Internationally, as well as holding a number of leadership roles within FMCG and retail.

Currently he is the Design Director for the recently launched British Design Fund as well as being a Governor at Falmouth University and a Trustee at 1418Now and MOBIE. His most recent full time role was as Chief Executive of the Design Council which he joined from an International CEO role at the Holmes & Marchant group. Previously he had ten years at the helm of the Brand Union (was Enterprise IG), WPP’s flagship brand design agency.

Over the last fifteen years he has been actively committed to the development of the design industry, serving as President of the DBA (Design Business Association) for three years as well as being involved in various ways with the Design Council and the broader design community.

During that time he has been involved in numerous judging roles but is now delighted to be chairing the Drum’s Design Awards in 2018:
