Virgin By Design marks the 50th birthday of one of the world's most daring, versatile brands. It's a visual journey through the values that have helped Virgin shake up so many sectors, from the perspective of over 120 people who have helped shape its past, present and future. Archive photography, campaign visuals and playful illustration bring their stories to life.
The brief was to go behind-the-scenes, sharing the brand’s secrets with designers, marketeers and entrepreneurs. The design encourages different levels of engagement, from visual inspiration to a more in-depth read. It had to speak the language of a high-end design book, but with a playful twist.
The subtle debossed cover uses Virgin's iconic red; a spot-colour throughout. Chapters use complementary pastels, typographic openers putting a playful twist on the theme. Content formats vary from bite-size captions to long thematic reads, bound-in as inserts amongst full-bleed images to maximise visual impact.
